'My wife Judy and I are pleased to report that the sale of our AT34064 Bluewater V to former AT34 owners John and Kathleen Harris of Southport, NC. The sale closed yesterday, and the whole process from listing right through to money in the bank couldn't have been much smoother. Much of the credit goes to our listing broker, Chuck Grice of Virginia Yacht Brokers, located at Atlantic Yacht Basin, right beside the Great Bridge Lock. This was the second AT34 Virginia Yacht Brokers has sold for us, and in each case we had a full price offer very shortly after the listing went live on YachtWorld. Also, in both cases the boats sold to the first lookers. One of the reasons for that is the wonderful staging of the boats, and the terrific videos and stills shot by Chuck's wife and business partner, Kelsey. She is an artist and it shows in the pictures and videos she creates to show the boats to maximum advantage. Milt Baker told me about his good experience with VYB and I’m happy to say I had the same. I spoke to Chuck Grice and it was evident we were on the same page when it came to marketing my American Tug.
We sent the boat from NY to Great Bridge in January. VYB’s team began a thorough prep including cleaning and addressing some minor mechanical issues that cropped up  on the trip south. Then came photography and video and posting on Yachtword, etc. I contributed some of the history of the boat; a passage to Alaska, through the Panama Canal, and the Great Loop. Some of this was used in the copy of the listing. At all points, Chuck communicated what was occurring, even to the number of views of the listing.

Sea trial and survey follow, with no serious problems. The sale closed in April. "Virginia Yacht Brokers was extremely supportive of our quest for a motor yacht to serve multiple purposes for us.  As recently retired military members and current professional merchant mariners, we were looking for a specific set of traits in a boat to help us transition to the next phase of life, including the ability to transit long distances, a capable live-aboard vessel, and a vessel suitable for professional maritime training and education.

"Gail and I began looking for a yacht broker to sell our 45’, 1990 Carver Californian, YOLO, in June 2020 after completing our second Great Loop.  We sought out a yacht broker that would provide personal attention during the entire sales progression and was not focused on volume sales.  Our compete sales experience from Chuck, Kelsey, and Parker at Virginia Yacht Brokers (VYB) could not have been more agreeable. Our initial meeting with Chuck gave us a positive impression as to their commitment to selling our vessel at an agreed price point in a reasonable timeframe. On handover, VYB’s team cleaned and detailed YOLO making her shine.  Kelsey staged the interior to showcase YOLO’s best amenities.  VYB produced, edited, and posted a video on multiple media platforms, which prospective buyers could clearly envision how YOLO would fit their lifestyle.  During the first week the video was on-line, Yolo received over 650 views.  VYB’s preparation of YOLO before every showing insured she would turn heads. "My wife Betsy and I recently sold our 2004 Monk 36 trawler through Virginia Yacht Brokers. We had owned the vessel for thirteen years. She had been used extensively, with 5000 hours put on the engine by us. The complete experience could not have been more completely pleasant. The vessel was initially detailed to a level where she showed as new. Staging was done that made her show very well. The preparation of our boat before showing was superb. It was all done seamlessly, with no questions for us. The cost for detailing and staging was very reasonable, particularly in consideration of how well it was done. Having the vessel at Virginia Yacht Broker’s place of business made it unnecessary for us to be involved with showing her to prospective buyers. Chuck and Kelsey handled the communications with the buyer with very little input from us. There were very few questions for us to respond to. When it came time for the closing, that was all handled by Chuck and Kelsey. Documents were transmitted electronically, and they were very easy to review and respond to. We were very fortunate to have a buyer who was very experienced, knowledgeable and pleasant. We chose Virginia Yacht Brokers because we knew of their record of handling the sale of several Monk 36’s. "We have visited Atlantic Yacht Basin and the Virginia Yacht Brokers undercover show room nearly a dozen times while traveling from Florida to Connecticut for our summers. We enjoyed seeing all the boats and wondering how they all seemed clean and well maintained, we were to find out. When we finished last summer on board we decided to sell our boat and planned on using a local broker there in CT. Our good friends who are a professional yacht delivery team reminded us of Virginia Yacht Brokers and told us in their minds it was the best place on the coast to sell our boat. Following their recommendation we made the trip back down to Atlantic Yacht Basin and met with Chuck Grice and his team, Bob Starr, Parker Griffo and Chuck’s wife Kelsey. Together they explained their "proven" process for selling yachts. Their program involves deep cleaning, staging and effective photography of the boat. Their frequent checks on each boat with scheduled cleanings and reports to us on any issues discovered made us feel very comfortable to leave the boat in their hands and head for Florida, never expecting to see the her again. As winter approached James Taylor the Atlantic Yacht Basin "Yard Manager" provided quick and very reasonable services for winterizing and repairing various systems that all boats require. Chuck and Kelsey went out of their way to make sure our boat presented itself in the best possible way. There was no "Nickle and Dimeing" for various extras they provided, and when they thought something should be taken care of by us we were immediately consulted. Parker's weekly report on how many people viewed our boat on their web site and on YouTube made us feel comfortable our boat was not left out of the mix of boats for sale. Chuck was always available and seemed to always be at work, including late weekend evenings. Chuck made the selling process very easy, even when we may have not been so easy to negotiate with. Survey, Sea Trial and Closing were seamless with Chuck guiding us and the buyer through the process. "I have spent most of my adult life preparing/dreaming for the day I'd buy ‘My Boat’. Not my first boat. I’ve owned many small boats. Primarily small fishing and sail boats. Photographs on the internet are the first impression a client has of your boat and it's critically important to have them look just right. When we spotted the shot of our 53' Selene on www.yachtworld.com the lighting made the boat glisten and she looked in pristine condition. As we watched the video we felt as if we were walking aboard and could see the layout as if we were there. "First off, “I don’t trust brokers”! But Chuck and his team are by all mean different: I trust them. I enjoyed working with them. Everything has worked seemingly. The facts: After meeting with them and few conversation over the phone, we were so confident, that we moved (last fall) the boat from Florida to Great Bridge in Atlantic Basin to make sure they will take care of our boat. Based on our bad experience, with a big agency in Florida, when we bought this boat … we were skeptical about brokers!!!
